Nine Oakwood High School swimmers will be facing the best in Ohio next week at the OHSAA State Meet after qualifying at the Southwest District Meet held at Miami University.
Freshman Sam Campbell had the top finish for OHS, placing second in the 500-yard freestyle. Campbell finished with a time of 4:40.96. Also qualifying in the 500-yard freestyle event for State were Nathan Boyce (4:47.09), Evan Trout (4:47.38) and Sam Auditore (5:16.18).
Boyce and Campbell joined Brendan Tsui and Rylan Quigley to form OHS' state qualifying team in the 200-yard medley. The team finished in 6th place at Miami University with a time of 1:42.27. Boyce will also be swimming in the 200-yard IM event at State, after finishing 3rd in the SW District Meet.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Trout placed 7th (1:46.03) and Auditore 9th (1:57.04) to advance to the State Meet. In the boys' 100-yard backstroke event, Campbell finished in 53.88 to place 5th and advance to States.
For the girls, Sophia McCarty advanced to State in the 100-yard breaststroke after finishing 4th with a time of 1:06.01.
OHS advanced both a girls' and boys' team in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The boys' team of Trout, Quigley, Campbell and Boyce finished in 3rd place with a time of 3:19.47. The girls' team of Kate Swedlund, Mary Kidwell, McCarty and Auditore finished in 6th in a time of 3:45.14.
The Division II swim preliminaries for the State Meet will be at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Thursday, Feb. 21 starting at 5 p.m. Finals will be the next day beginning at 5 p.m.
